Nestled in the middle of the beautiful Ohio countryside, Circleville, OH is a great place for nature lovers. AW Marion State Park Covering 310 acres of beautiful Ohio countryside, AW Marion State Park contains a huge lake in which you can go fishing and boating along with loads of hiking trails through the forests and plains. There are plenty of amenities and recreational activities so even the kids will enjoy visiting, but the park manages to hold onto its natural charm and serenity, making it perfect for a picnic. If you'd like to spend the night here, there are a couple of campsites where you can pitch your tent and set up camp, and you'll be woken up in the morning to the beautiful noises of the variety of songbirds that thrive in the park. Tar Hollow State Park Located about 23 miles to the south of Circleville, Tar Hollow is easy to drive to. The 604-acre park contains long hiking trails that take you deep into Tar Hollow State Forest, and there is also a 15-acre lake in which visitors can go swimming, fishing, and boating. Encircled by the Appalachian Plateau, the park offers quick access to the Appalachian Trail, and you are sure to meet many travelers taking the route. Some of the roads around the park can be fairly rough, but with the intelligent all-wheel drive on the new GMC Terrain SLE, you'll know you and your passengers will still be comfortable as you're driving to and from Tar Hollow. Hocking Hills State Park With over 25 miles of hiking trails, Hocking Hills is one the best parks in the state for hiking enthusiasts. Situated within the park are many incredible natural rock formations, caves, and waterfalls, and as you wander through you will find the scenery around you change from sharp rocky outcrops and deep caves to the huge trees of the Hocking State Forest. Hocking Hills is located about 28 miles to the southeast of Circleville, so you can drive there easily in just over half an hour, making this a great place to head to for a quick day out. Serpent Mound Take a drive out to Peebles and see the world's most spectacular effigy mound built by ancient American Indian cultures. The mound is 1,330 feet long and three feet high and in the shape of a snake with a curled tail. There are three burial mounds nearby created by the Adena culture, which flourished between 800 B.C. to A.D. 100, and one by the Fort Ancient culture between A.D. 1000 to 1650. Serpent Mound is a National Historic Landmark and will soon be included on the World Heritage List. Address and Hours Serpent Mount is at 3850 State Route 73 in Peebles and is open from April 1 to November 20, Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. 3. Great Seal State Park Go on an outdoor adventure and visit Great Seal State for a day of activities and fun in the sun. Hit 23 miles of scenic nature trails that cut through the woods and over the rugged hills on foot, mountain bike, or in the saddle. Follow the paths into the hills and ridgetops to enjoy scenic vistas of the Scioto Valley and see as far as Columbus on a clear day. The Wilds Drive a little further away and take a drive on the wild side on a safari tour at The Wilds. Knowledgeable wildlife guides will take you to observe rare and endangered animals, including giraffes and rhinos, roaming across the fields in an open-air vehicle. The Wilds also offer horseback safaris adventures, zip line canopy tours, and safari fishing on boats to remote areas in the reserve. It first opened in 1899 and has been a restaurant for 122 years. A restaurant that's been around for so long generates very loyal customers. Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, you get the same exceptional service. The servers are friendly and seem to know regular customers' orders before they even sit down. The breakfast options are basic, but  Canal focuses on the comfort food that makes people happy. Their chicken and waffle is a perfect pairing and a firm breakfast favorite. Breakfast sandwiches, breakfast bowls, and biscuits with sausage gravy are great, down-home food and served in more than ample portions. Canal can be found at 4 S High Street, Canal Winchester.
