1. Columbus Zoo and Aquarium

The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium is rated as one of the best zoos in North America and offer a range of incredible one-of-a-kind animal experiences. 2. Serpent Mound

Take a drive out to Peebles and see the world’s most spectacular effigy mound built by ancient American Indian cultures. The mound is 1,330 feet long and three feet high and in the shape of a snake with a curled tail.

There are three burial mounds nearby created by the Adena culture, which flourished between 800 B.C. to A.D. 100, and one by the Fort Ancient culture between A.D. 1000 to 1650. Serpent Mound is a National Historic Landmark and will soon be included on the World Heritage List.

Serpent Mount is at 3850 State Route 73 in Peebles and is open from April 1 to November 20, Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

3. Great Seal State Park

Go on an outdoor adventure and visit Great Seal State for a day of activities and fun in the sun. Hit 23 miles of scenic nature trails that cut through the woods and over the rugged hills on foot, mountain bike, or in the saddle. Follow the paths into the hills and ridgetops to enjoy scenic vistas of the Scioto Valley and see as far as Columbus on a clear day.

4. The Wilds

Drive a little further away and take a drive on the wild side on a safari tour at The Wilds. Knowledgeable wildlife guides will take you to observe rare and endangered animals, including giraffes and rhinos, roaming across the fields in an open-air vehicle.

The Wilds also offer horseback safaris adventures, zip line canopy tours, and safari fishing on boats to remote areas in the reserve. Stroll through the Butterfly Habitat and enjoy a bite to eat at the Overlook Cafe before heading home.
